I am an Assistant Professor of Government at Cornell University, where I also am affiliated with the Center for the Study of Inequality. 

I study how politics shape the social policies, labor markets, and overall economies of post-industrial societies, focusing on the United States and Western Europe. 

This website is a portal to my work in these areas.  My award-winning book, The Welfare Workforce: Why Mental Health Care Varies Across Affluent Democracies, is available open-access from Cambridge University Press (Studies in Comparative Politics Series).

My next book project, Diversity and Distribution: Race, Immigration, and the Welfare State, is under advance contract with Princeton University Press.
